BYOD Setup

Get your personal device ready for school

Before you start

You will need your school username and password. Your username is your first name and last name with no space (e.g., johnsmith).

1

Check your device meets requirements

We recommend a Windows laptop where possible. macOS (Apple Mac) computers are also acceptable. Students in Years 11–13 must have a device compatible with NCEA exam software — see the BYOD Rules for full requirements.

See the BYOD Rules for school expectations around device use in class.

2

Sign in to your school Microsoft account

Go to office.com and sign in with your school email (e.g. [email protected] for students). Select Work or school account when prompted.

3

Connect to school Wi-Fi

Join the RNLS_WiFi network using your school username and password. Personal hotspots are not allowed during class time.

Set up printing

Install PaperCut on your device so you can print to any school printer. Print jobs are held until you release them at a printer.

Install the apps you need

Install Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote) from office.com. If you are in an eligible art or design class, you may also need Adobe Creative Cloud.
